The Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (PROHAM) was established by former members of the Human Rights Commission of Malyasia (Suhakam) and the Royal Police Commission. PROHAM was registered on March 10, 2011 under the Registrar of Societies as Peratuan Promosi Hak Asasi Manusia (PROHAM) (Ref-ROS 1197-11-WKL). It is an independent and impartial human rights organization.
PROHAM works with the Government, civil society and private sector. It fucntions in accordance to the values laid out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and other UN Human Rights statues as well as the Federal Constitution of Malaysia.
PROHAM promotes Human Rights among the Malaysian people, promotes the rights of indigenous people and other ethnic minorities, organizes discussions on pressing human rights concerns and networks with regional and international organizations in the promotion of Human Rights, among other objectives.
PROHAM is active in hosting Roundtable Discussions and undertaking position statements on human rights concerns which are issued as press statements. It has actively advocated for Malaysia ratifying the UN Convention on the elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD)
