2014 UN Human Rights Day Celebration
“Human Rights 365”
The UN General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
For 2014 UN has adopted the theme Human Rights 365. This is because human rights encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day. It celebrates the fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that each one of us, everywhere, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights. “
Malaysian celebrations - 2014
In Malaysia the United Nations Country Team in Malaysia, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF), the Bar Council Malaysia and the Society for the Promotion of Human Rights (PROHAM) are jointly hosting a number of events in conjunction with Human Rights Day.
The aim is to organise a week of activities to enhance awareness and understanding on human rights. This week of activities resonates with the theme for Human Rights Day 2014; “Human Rights 365” and encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day. It celebrates the fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that human rights are an entitlement for each one of us, everywhere, at all times.
